Preparing for your session
Beautiful and memorable portraits do not just happen. They are
carefully planned. Please take a few moments to look over the
following suggestions to see how you may participate in the planning of
your portrait. Feel free to call regarding any questions or
ideas you may have before your session.
Before You Arrive - Be careful to avoid conditions that will cause
problems during your session. Tan lines or sun burns can be
difficult to correct when your clothing does not conceal them. If
you are considering a bare look you should avoid wearing anything that
will leave strap lines or indentations on your skin. Socks and
knee highs leave red indentation rings around your legs and should
definitely be avoided.
Clothing, etc. - Carefully consider your outfits from head to toe.
This keeps your options open to create a variety of images
ranging from full length to closeups. Entirely white clothing is
excellent for a softer look. Darker tones tend to be more
dramatic. The colour of your clothing will determine what kind of
background will be most suitable. Medium to dark clothes are best
for darker backgrounds while a light background is much more effective
with lighter coloured clothing. Avoid large or bold patterns and
bright colours that tend to draw attention away from your expression.
In general the colour should be subtle with little or no pattern.
Tops with sleeves, spaghetti straps and bare shoulders all
photograph better than tops with wider straps. When preparing for
a group portrait, it is especially important to have everyone dressed
in a similar theme or style. Color coordination lends harmony to
your family portrait. A family group should choose clothing that
blends each members attire with the background as well as with each
other, rather than creating conflicting focal points that distract from
the group as a whole. Bring as many clothing changes as you wish.
This will help us assist you in selecting the most appropriate
outfit.
Hair and makeup - It is best to stay with a hair style and makeup that
you are comfortable with. Pay particular attention to your eyes,
lips and cheekbones.
Jewellery and accessories - Jewellery and other accessories add that
finishing touch to any outfit. Please make sure that the
accessories that you choose are appropriate for the style of the
clothing that you are going to wear.
Glasses - If you wear glasses regularly, please feel free to wear them
during your portrait session. Be aware, however, that they do
create some problems. The highly reflective nature of glass may
cause reflection and elimination of detail in the eye area of your
portrait. The optics of the lenses can cause refraction of light,
resulting in distortion of the face. Tinted lenses cause
discoloration of the eye and surrounding skin. The solution to
all of these problems is the wearing of frames without lenses.
You may either remove the lenses yourself or borrow similar
frames from an optician.
Props - Let your imagination go. By incorporating images of your
own, you help to capture your personality in a unique way.
Music - Appropriate music goes a long way to setting the right mood for
your session. Feel free to bring along your favorite CD's or
choose from our selection.
All final images leaving the studio are professionally enhanced,
softening the skin, removing any blemishes or laugh-lines, whitening
the teeth, and providing special little nips and tucks where necessary
(to be discussed with each individual client).
